Are you into cross dressing? If so, you may want to read this as it shows you to cross dress to kill, without much of a hassle. Getting to be a woman may be your dream but you need to deal with certain issues before you can effectively win any cross dressing competitions hands down. For starters, you will need to deal with all that body hair, on the face, arms and legs. Let’s face it; being part of the male species, you are bound to have hair in all the nooks and crannies.

If you are old fashioned and prefer to use a single blade razor to deal with the same, all I can say is good luck. Do make sure to have a few tissues handy for you will need it when the blood starts to flow and it will, given your preference for the ancient razors. You are bound to cut yourself up even with the most safe-styled razors that Gillette can come out with. Shaving your body is not the same as shaving your face, for one, you will need to determine the angle and position for shaving your ankles and determine the safe way to deal with your arms, with elbows tucked in. Sure, you can go the painzine route and try out the wax. If it is your first time with the wax, your scream should be good enough to knock the socks of the likes of Metallica. However, if you are on the lookout for painless yet effective cross dressing techniques, you definitely need to take a look at the ‘world’s best cross dressing guide’.

From what I have seen so far, I have to say that this cross dressing guide happens to be a book that sticks to the topic and does not use the same as a gimmick for advertising porn. This guide comes packed with all the tips, techniques you need to change into the perfect woman, from tip to the soles of your feet. This book is loaded with content that should give you the right pointers in getting rid off that messy body hair, the painless way as well as the rest of what you will require in order to change into a woman. From creating that cleavage to methods to hide that unseemly bulge, you can literally use this guide as a one stop cross dressing junction point to deal with myriad issues.

Here are a few specs on the-book; its 173 pages are loaded with the techniques and tricks of the trade, from makeup to female pheromones. This book shows you products and techniques for creating the soft female skin, silky smooth to touch. It comes packed with all the fashion tips, dressing tips as well as a list of accessories to help you enhance the feminine look even further.

This e-book shows you how to cross dress the right way and certainly points out the list of stuff you are not supposed to do. It does go a bit further and provides you with a list of mannerisms for you to adopt so that you can behave as a real lady would. For a very comprehensive look into cross dressing and ways to do it effectively, take a closer look at this product.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Let us try to get a best bass guitar songs list among the hundreds of wonderful songs that we have heard over the years. The list though not inclusive of all the legends is an attempt at listing out a top 10 bass guitar songs. The number ten songs on the list is Break on Through by the Doors and it is quite a wonderful way that bass is used in this song that makes it such a hot favorite. Higher up on the list at number nine is Boris the Spider by The Who.

At number eight we have Whipping Post by Allman Brothers band and at number seven we have Roundabout by Yes. Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin is at number six and at number five we have The Real Me by The Who. Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple is at number four and at three we have Another One Bite the Dust by Queen.

At number two we have My Generation by The Who and the topmost position is occupied by Money by Pink Floyd. There could be a number of people who could be annoyed that the list does not include the legends of bass guitar like Beatles, Eagles, Dire Straits, Black Sabbath, Taylor Swift, Guns N Roses, Eric Clapton, Metallica and many more wonderful, talented and gifted legends who had made the bass guitar a magical instrument.

The list as stated earlier is not a complete list and there are bound to be arguments and counter arguments about the validity of an inclusion. The list is just a starting point where beginners or novices in guitar playing can listen to and learn the wonderful skills from the legends who have strummed the guitars to perfection to bring out the best music that we had all loved and cherished.

Along with the list of top 10 bass guitar songs we must also have a list of top 10 bass players who have immortalized this humble instrument into a great piece of art. This list would again not be a complete list but just an attempt to identify the legends of guitar who have given us such wonderful music. Paul McCartney from the former Beatles was considered a legend that used to play the bass to perfection and most people thought that his fingers were magical when they touched the guitar and some of the most memorable bass guitar songs have come from this great man. Others on the list would include Pino Palladino, Flea, Jaco Pastorius, Mark King, Tony Levin, Geddy Lee, Bootsy Collins, Charlie Haden and John Paul Jones.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You go into the gym and find yourself without the usual desire to do your exercises. What’s the best way to get into the workout mood? Music.

The right music can make your workout that more effective. To help you do that I compiled a short list of some of the best weight lifting songs:

1. Welcome to the Jungle by Guns ‘n’ Roses – I still remember when this came out. It totally blew me away. This is a fast paced, energy filled, rock song which is sure to get you pumping and eager to lift some weights. Axel Rose’s vocals on this song are fantastic.

2. Enter Sandman by Metallica – I love this band, although in recent years they seem to have mellowed somewhat. However, this nightmarish song is the remedy for any fatigue. It is so powerful and will make you feel powerful too. Exit light, enter weights, I say.

3. Jump by Van Halen – This song is something between rock and pop. The title says it all, get ready to feel like jumping or, better yet, pumping iron like crazy. This sone is so catchy and fast that it will have you feeling like you can lift a mountain.

4. Smells like Team Spirit by Nirvana – recently, Paul Anka released a mellow version of this song which is kind of cool, but if you’re looking for the best weight lifting songs to help you workout more, stick to the original version. The music and vocals are so powerful here, you just feel like you’re an entire team of athletes yourself.

5. Into the Storm by Blind Guardian – This song is part of the classic album by this heavy metal German band which is inspired by the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This is the most heavy metal song on the list but I’ve used it several times both as a running song and a strength training song. Try it out and you’ll see.

Make sure these 5 songs are on your playlist before you go into any gym.

Here we go again. Another trip to the yester-decade of the 80’s. What to choose and where to start? There were so many great 80’s music albums that it would be next to impossible to name them all. But, you will have to agree that those I will mention will be in the top favorites of anyone’s list. Most rock, a few pop, and maybe a great 80’s music soundtrack thrown in for good measure. Let’s get started.

First on the list is from the Red Rocker himself, Sammy Hagar. His contributions in the 80’s were far and wide. It seemed as though he could just wake up and crank out a mega 80’s music hit album. My personal favorite from him is Standing Hampton. Heavy Metal, I’ll Fall In Love Again, There’s Only One Way To Rock, and my favorite song from this one, Can’t Get Loose. Three Lock Box and VOA are a couple of more 80’s albums from this powerhouse. An awesome singer, and a great guitar player as well. What more could you ask for?

Next up on this list is Guns-N-Roses. Who could ever forget thier first hit album Appetite For Destruction? Mr. Brownstone, Paradise City, Sweet Child O’ Mine, and my favorite from this one, Welcome To The Jungle. Axl Rose, Duff, and Slash knew exactly what I was craving when this one came out. The louder this album is played, the better it sounds. Is there ever a thing as too much volume? Rap music, yes. 80’s classic music rock, no!!

Let’s reminisce now with the classic 80’s album from Metallica. …And Justice For All is perhaps the loudest, hardest rocking album of the big 80’s. To Live Is to Die, and Blackened are classics in themselves. But then comes along the big daddy of them all, One. Beautiful, slow, heart wrenching in the beginning, and then, BAM! grabs you by the throat and kicks your tail to the very end. By far my favorite Metallica song to date.

Motley Crue was another favorite band in the 80’s and cannot be left out. Dr. Feelgood was the flagship for them with hits like Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away), Kickstart My Heart, and Without You. A great blend of hard rock, ballads, and just feel good music all together. What a 80’s music hit album should be. Does anyone remember Tommy Lee spinning while playing the drums? I know we all did.

We have to throw a couple of pop albums in here to complete the package. One of the better pop artists to come out of the 80’s was Cyndi Lauper. Her biggest album was called She’s So Unusual. That she was! But that’s what attracted me to her music. I like to go off the beaten path, and Cyndi got me there. Not to mention that she was and still is an incredible artist. The haunting Time After Time, Money Changes Everything, and her signature Girl’s Just Want To Have Fun cemented her into America’s heart. Not to mention the videos with all the wrestling greats. Did Cyndi know something we didn’t?

Heart was another band that enjoyed mega stardom. Ann and Nancy Wilson are two of the hottest singers that ever graced a stage. I actually had a personal conversation with Ann Wilson. I yelled at the top of my lungs – Hello!! at one of their concerts and she said Hello! back. Okay, okay, I gotta get my fifteen minutes of fame somewhere! But back to the grat 80’s music hit albums. Heart – and their self titled album. What About Love, Nothin’ At All, and Nancy at the height of her game with These Dreams. A classic 80’s hit album at the top of the list.

How ’bout a classic 80’s hit movie soundtrack now? Let’s look at the often over-looked movie soundtrack Valley Girl. Don’t laugh, it was a pretty good album in itself. Love My Way by the Psychedelic Furs, Who Can It Be Now by Men At Work, and the one hit wonder I Melt With You by Modern English. Not too hip on the movie, but I really like the new wave soundtrack.

So here we are at the conclusion of another 80’s music hits fun-fest. I hope this sparked even more 80’s memories within you and will keep them alive. Keep it loud, keep it proud and as always, Rock On!

Want to know the fastest way to master the skill of guitar string muting? This article will discuss this important technique.

String muting is a relevant method that may assist you in defining your own individual style. It consists of 2 basic types of string muting, the palm mute with your plectrum hand and the string mute with your fret hand. These two types serve absolutely distinct purposes, but both are essential to skillful guitar playing.

Fret-hand muting especially comes into play, while playing chords and power chords. You should use part of you finger tips and fingers to mute the strings you do not need to include in the chord being played. For instance the C major chord is played from the fifth string to the first, your are not supposed to hit the sixth string. I recommend you use the tip of your third finger that’s holding downward the fifth string third fret to rub up against the sixth string thereby muting the string. You should use this method with power chords. You should also use the chubby part of your forefinger to gently lay across strings 1,2,3. with precisely sufficient force to mute the strings. The wonderful thing is if you get a little bit carried away with your plectrum, it’ll still sound good. Fret-hand muting is used extensively.

Palm muting is more generally applied in distorted rock songs. The method requires resting the heel of your pick-hand palm on the strings as you pluck. Nearly all guitar players rest it straight over the bridge, but you’ll be able to try out various positionings for diverse sounds. You should attempt several degrees of pressure to determine the level of muting. This method produces a percussive, toned down or chunky sound. Merge fast downwardly strokes with palm muting in varied patterns with mild distortion for sounds alike to Metallica. Kirk Hammett uses string muting to great effect on ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and ‘The Day That Never Comes’.

The techniques of both fret hand muting and palm muting are very personal and rhetorical. By applying and integrating this method on a daily basis, you will get the hang of this essential skill in the shortest time.

You now have a better understanding of what string muting is. You know there are 2 types. Apply this newfound knowledge in your guitar playing. You also need to watch how the professionals do it. Copy them but create your own unique guitar sound.Go on, champ!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Metallica is one of the biggest bands in the world. They’ve sold over a 100 million albums across the globe, and have a fan following that is spread from New York to Tokyo. As the creators of some of the biggest hits in the metal genre, Metallica was single handedly responsible for popularizing heavy metal among the mainstream. Without Metallica, acts like Linkin Park, Pantera, Marlyn Manson, etc. wouldn’t have been possible.

So let’s take a look back at some of the best Metallica songs over the past two decades. This should serve as both a nostalgic trip for old fans, and a nice introduction to the band for new listeners.

1. Fade to Black

Album: Ride the Lightening (1984)

“Fade to Black” was one of the earliest Metallica hits and is one of their most requested songs at concerts. Clocking in at 6 minutes, 56 seconds, this track was one of the singles from their second album, Ride the Lightening. Look out for the amazing guitar solo by lead guitarist Kirk Hammett at the very end.

2. Master of Puppets

Album: Master of Puppets (1986)

“Master of Puppets” (both the album and the song) is considered the pinnacle of Metallica’s creative achievements, one of the best albums in the heavy metal genre. The titular song is about addiction, and has some haunting guitar work and lyrics.

3. Unforgiven

Album: Metallica (1991)

In their self-titled 1991 album, Metallica turned over a more “pop” leaf. Their songs lost some of that heavy metal touch, the lyrics became more introspective, and the long, flowing manes of the band members were replaced by a more clean cut look. This 1991 album was one of the largest selling albums of 1990s, selling over 20 million copies across the world. The song, “Unforgiven” was one of the highlights from this album.

4. Nothing Else Matters

Album: Metallica (1991)

Another song from their 1991 self titled album, “Nothing Else Matters” is unique as it is a soft, acoustic love song – a genre Metallica hadn’t explored before. Fans of heavy metal loathe it, but most others love it.

5. One

Album:…And Justice For All (1989)

“One” tells the story of a soldier who lost his arms as well as legs in a battle. This heavy metal song is the perfect example of the genre, with powerful vocals, great chord structure, and an exceptionally strong guitar solo.

Metallica was formed in October 1981 in Los Angeles by drummer Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield (vocals and guitarist) after placing classified ads in The Recycler.

The two original members recruited Ron McGovney as bassist but were unable to find a full-time lead guitarist, which resulted in a number of guitarists, like Brad Parker, Jeff Warner and Lloyd Grant.

Metallica’s music was greatly influenced by British metal bands like Judas Priest, Motorhead, Black Sabbath and Saxon, as well as various punk bands like The Ramones, Discharge and The Misfits.

The Early Years

When Ulrich became desperate to find a full-time lead guitarist for Metallica, he posted another ad in a local California newspaper. Dave Mustaine responded and agreed to audition. However, Hetfield and Ulrich were so impressed with Mustaine’s warm-up, they asked him to join the band.

Around 1982 Metallica recorded demos like “Ron’s Garage” and “Hit the Lights.” In the same year, Metallica released a full demo entitled “No Life ‘Til Leather,” which became successful in the underground scene.

At the end of 1982, Ron McGovney left Metallica, so the band searched for another bassist and saw Cliff Burton play live with a band known as Trauma. Burton agreed to join the band only if they relocated to his hometown of San Francisco. When the band moved, they signed with Megaforce Records and replaced Dave Mustaine with Kirk Hammett from Exodus.

In 1983 Metallica recorded its first album, entitled “Kill ‘Em All,” in Rochester, New York. Although the album did not achieve instant success, it did gain them exposure and a growing number of fans in the underground scene.

Metallica’s Worldwide Success

After a year Metallica released a major hit song “Ride the Lightning,” which featured a more introspective, slower and newer style. After its release, major labels wanted Metallica. However, the band chose Elektra and released “Master of Puppets” in 1986. Although Metallica failed to release any single for the 1986 album, it was still regarded as the album that gave way to their success breakthrough.

When Cliff Burton was killed by a freak accident in 1986, Metallica discontinued playing for a while until they decided that Burton would have wanted them to continue their music. A few weeks after Burton’s funeral, Metallica finally hired Jason Newsted.

“…And Justice for All” was the first album in which Newsted played bass. With much controversy, it was released in 1988. The following year, Metallica’s 1988 album was nominated for its first Grammy. Unfortunately, Jethro Tull’s “Crest of a Knave” won the award.

Three years later, the band won a Grammy for “Enter Sandman” from Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album, also known as “The Black Album.” It instantly became a hit and became the band’s most popular song to date.

When Metallica entered the mainstream in 1991, they sold over 10 million albums in U.S. alone. It was in 1996 that Metallica switched to alternative rock for their “Load” album. Unfortunately, many fans were discouraged of the sudden change in music style.

In 1992’s “Reload,” Metallica produced a major comeback and their worldwide fans hailed their return. Their success continued throughout the end of 1990s. However, in 2001, Jason Newsted left the band for personal reasons while James Hetfield stayed in rehab for a couple of months.

In 2002, Lars Ulrich, the now-sober James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and their long-time producer Bob Rock, who replaced Newsted, continued in creating Metallica’s eleventh album, entitled “St. Anger,” which produced a more mature, honest and heavy sound that fans worldwide continue to love.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Regulate

Putting the puppy on a routine and regimenting his little life as much as possible is also extremely helpful in housebreaking. As I mentioned above dogs are creatures of habit. The more they are made to follow a strict routine the more their little bodies and minds adapt to it and the more they come to expect it. This type of regularity is very comforting and makes your pup feel that life is safe, secure and predictable.

In relation to housebreaking you want to regulate both feeding times and elimination times. Most owners feed very young puppies three times a day. That’s fine. Just try and be sure that it’s always more or less the same time. Regular inputs tend to produce regular outputs. Please do not free feed your dog, that is, leave food out for him all day long. If your pup nibbles at his food here and there it will be much more difficult for you to tell when he’s going to need to go to the bathroom. At feeding times put his food down for ten to fifteen minutes and whatever he hasn’t eaten, throw it back in the bag. He’ll see it again at the next mealtime. If your pup is particular and turns his nose up at his food that’s fine. He’ll be hungrier the next time around and will soon figure out that he’s got specific windows of opportunity to eat and that he should take advantage of them. Trust me, he won’t starve himself.

As far as elimination is concerned, in the early days your pup will seemingly need to go without rhyme or reason. During this time you should take him out every hour or so, if possible. Soon, however, you’ll begin to see a pattern emerge and you should try to align yourself with that. In other words, be sure he’s out when he needs to be out. For example, if you know that he’s usually got to go ten minutes after his mealtimes try to always take him out at those times. Also, keep in mind that he will most likely need to go immediately after waking and after only a few short minutes of vigorous play. At any rate, try to observe his rhythms and get in sync with them. As he gets older you’ll be able to make adjustments to his routine based on your needs but in order to eliminate accidents in the house as soon as possible with a very young pup you need to work in accordance with his needs more than your own

By getting in sync and establishing a routine your pup will come to not only expect but depend on this regularity and will derive great peace of mind from it. For example, if, as your pup gets older, he consistently learns when his bathroom time is, he’ll have no reason to be anxious about anything. He’ll know that “15 more minutes and I get to go out and go potty” and will, as he gets older, work to restrain himself until the appointed time. He won’t have to worry “Oh my God, I’ve got to go. When are they going to take me out?” He’ll come to know his time is just around the corner and breathe easier in that knowledge. And frankly, wouldn’t you?

Pulling It All Together

Now that we’ve examined the three pillars of housebreaking let’s take a look at how they work together to support your housebreaking program on a day-to-day basis. Of course, the routine outlined below is only a blueprint – one in which I’ve tried to address common problems as well – and you’ll have to work out the details of your own schedule based on the necessities of your life. Nonetheless, I hope you will find it helpful. So without further adieu, let’s dive in.

First thing in the morning, gather your senses and take the pup out to an area you have designated as the doggie bathroom. With very young pups it’s best to simply pick them up and take them out rather than letting them follow you out since they’ll be bursting and will often stop halfway to the door and relieve themselves. It’s also a good idea to have a leash on your pup so once outside you can restrict him to a particular area and help define this area as the bathroom. Otherwise pups have a tendency to roam about looking for new and interesting places to eliminate and, before you know it, your backyard has become more treacherous than a Cambodian minefield. A five-foot by five-foot area should be sufficient and if you’re feeling particularly generous you could find a second spot as well. After all, who doesn’t like having two bathrooms in the house? Once you’ve gotten your pup out, set him down in the designated area and let him sniff about. If he begins to wander out of the designated zone bring him back into it with very gentle nudges on the leash. (If you bring your pup to the same spot consistently he’ll soon be choosing to eliminate there on his own.)

Since it’s morning time it shouldn’t take him too long to find a spot and unburden himself. While he is eliminating (either #1 or #2) you have a wonderful opportunity to teach him to do this on command. As esoteric as this might sound, it’s an extraordinarily simple thing to accomplish. Simply find a suitable phrase such as “get busy” or “hurry up” and gently repeat it over and over again to the pup while he’s eliminating, not before and not after, but during the act. The moment the pup is done reward him with a little treat which you have thoughtfully brought along to celebrate the occasion. This teaches him to associate his body action (eliminating) with a sound (“hurry up”) and a positive result at the end (a treat). Repeat this procedure both after urinating and defecating and do it consistently. You’ll be amazed how fast your pup will begin to respond to your request to eliminate.

Once your dog is done eliminating clean up any messes right then and there if possible. It’s important, if you want your dog to return to the same spot repeatedly, to keep the area reasonably clean. Dogs, despite the nasty things they sometimes get into, are relatively clean animals. They will avoid eliminating in an area that still has evidence from the last outing lying there by choosing a spot a bit further away. If the next time the two offending items are still there he will find a third spot and so forth and so on. Before you know it you’re in the minefield scenario once again. Keep the area clean and you won’t have these problems.

Now that you’ve taken your pup out to the bathroom, rewarded him, and brought him back inside it’s time for breakfast. Remember, no free feeding. Put his dish down for fifteen minutes or so and throw whatever he hasn’t eaten back in the bag. After breakfast you’ll have to keep a close eye on him since, as I told you a few moments ago, pups tend to eliminate on three occasions, one of which is after eating. So now you’re back in the danger zone. How long after eating it takes for a pup to need to eliminate varies but fifteen to thirty minutes is about average. If you play with him for a little while after breakfast you’ll quickly meet the second elimination criteria: during or after vigorous play which means you’ll have to keep an extra close eye on him. Again, if he starts looking around as if he’s lost his keys you should get him out – fast. Once outside simply repeat the procedure outlined above.

It’s possible at this point, or at any point for that matter, that the pup might have a little surprise in store for you: failure to cooperate. In other words, now that he’s all worked up from his playtime and with all the distractions outside, it might not occur to him to take a break from all that fun in order to eliminate even if he has too. He just wants to keep playing. What many owners end up doing is continuing to engage their dog in play once in the potty area or stand around for 20 minutes waiting for the dog to deliver the goods. Once the dog does finally perform he is immediately brought inside because all the owner ever wanted was for him to eliminate. Big mistake! Always separate playtime from time potty time. In other words, if you’re going out in order to have the dog eliminate do not play with him unless it’s after he’s done the deed. Otherwise the pup learns that the longer he doesn’t go the longer he gets to play and conversely, when he does go the fun is over. Pups are smarter than you think. Which do you think he’ll choose?

Additionally, do not stand out there with him and wait around forever. Teach him that he has a window of opportunity to eliminate. How big should that window be? My personal standard is about the length of time it takes for a commercial break to run during my favorite television program or about 3-4 minutes. If the pup does not eliminate during this timeframe bring him back inside and crate him for about ten to fifteen minutes or until the next commercial break. Then try him again. If he fails to eliminate again repeat the procedure. Promptly returning the pup to the crate when he doesn’t eliminate outside prevents him from coming back in where the stimulation level is lower and suddenly remembering his need to go. Only when he finally does deliver the goods outside can you give him some supervised freedom inside.

Throughout the day continue with this routine or some semblance thereof. Feed, play, eliminate, play some more, crate awhile, eliminate, play, feed, crate, etc. Remember that you can use the umbilical cord and tie down approaches to both confine and supervise the pup during the course of your day. Also, bear in mind that keeping whatever routine you establish consistent from day to day will be extraordinarily helpful to your pup.

As you approach evening time be sure to take up your pup’s food and water at least 3 hours before bedtime and give him minimally two more opportunities to eliminate before putting him to bed. This will ensure that he is as empty as possible before bedtime and it will help you get him through the night. However, sometimes, with a very young pup, you’re going to need to bite the bullet and take him out in the middle of the night in order to avoid him eliminating in his crate.

In this connection, I would not recommend just gating your pup in some small part of the house such as a bathroom and allowing him to eliminate there at night primarily because this can teach him that sometimes it’s actually ok to eliminate inside and thus fail to develop the discipline to contain himself until you get him out. While there are circumstances that might demand such an approach (more on that shortly) I would encourage you to avoid this if at all possible.

Instead, try the following routine. First, put your crate next to your bed so you can hear your pup and determine if he needs to go out. Additionally, place a spray bottle filled with water or a taste deterrent on top of the crate so you can reprimand him for unnecessary barking. Having the crate next to you allows you to both monitor the pup and reprimand him if necessary without having to leave your bed. It also serves to give the young pup the comfort and security of knowing someone is there in lieu of mom and littermates. This will tend to help him sleep more comfortably in the early stages. For those of you who don’t want the pup in the bedroom, fear not. It’s not a difficult matter once he is sleeping through the night and comfortable with his new pack, to move him out of the bedroom. But in the beginning it’s just a much easier way to go for all concerned.

Now, there are two approaches you can use to get through the night. The first involves getting up in about three hour increments and taking the pup out. Follow the elimination routine outlined above. Once the pup is finished promptly return him to his crate. Never play with your puppy in the middle of the night! Nighttime is not playtime. It’s sleep time. Do not teach your pup to expect play sessions in the dead of night or he’ll come to expect them and end up driving you crazy. Once your pup is back in bed he should be expected to settle down and go back to sleep. If he barks and complains reprimand him as described in the section on crate training. Be consistent and relentless. Teach him that barking and complaining in the crate is simply not an option. It shouldn’t be too difficult for him if he’s learned this during the daytime already. Soon you’ll find that he gets the idea and goes right back to sleep once he’s settled back into his crate.

The other approach you can take at night is to simply wait until you hear the pup whining a bit because he needs to eliminate and take him out then. Now by doing this you are technically breaking one of the rules – never let him out when he’s complaining – but handled properly this shouldn’t be a big problem. If you hear the puppy express his discomfort upon waking give him the benefit of the doubt and get him out. Once he’s eliminated immediately return him to bed. Now, if he complains after he’s been returned, reprimand him. Soon he’ll understand the concept – complaining for any other reason than the need for elimination leads to a correction.

These nocturnal excursions with your pup may, in the beginning, occur as often as three times nightly. However, as he grows even a little older you should be able to drop these little outings one by one and by the time he’s three to three and a half months of age he should be able to sleep through the night without needing to eliminate. This effort will be well worth it as your pup will be strengthening his habit of going to the bathroom outside, a habit that he will soon have internalized permanently.

Following a routine such as the one I have outlined above should lead to accident free puppy ownership relatively quickly. However, this does not mean that your pup is necessarily housetrained. It only means you’re doing a good job confining, supervising and regulating him. But, given the opportunity your pup might still eliminate in the house. The two benchmarks I use to determine if a dog is reliably housetrained are that he should be six to eight months of age and have not had an accident in the house for at least 2 months. Of course, your two-month count always begins again at the time of the most recent accident but once you’ve reached this goal you can breathe a little easier regarding your pup’s bathroom habits.

One final thought in regard to this. If you feel that your pup has been doing really well on his housebreaking and he’s having a sudden reversion there may be a health problem such as a bladder or urinary tract infection, in which case all bets are off. The pup simply can’t help himself. Be patient, get him to the vet and be prepared to go back to square on temporarily. What you’ll find is that once he’s healthy again he’ll quickly progress right to where he was before he fell ill, if you’ve gone back to square one and gotten him out very diligently during his illness.

The information outlined above should give you everything you need to efficiently housebreak your puppy. Of course, it makes the major assumption that someone is home all day and has the time available to be as diligent as this program demands, an assumption that may be altogether wrong. In the next section I’ll discuss other approaches and problem solving tools in relation to housebreaking but before doing so I’d like to summarize what I’ve covered so far.

The Three Pillars

Confine

o Use a crate

o Make it inviting

o Reprimand complaining

o If he’s not confined…

Supervise

o Use umbilical cord and tie down approach when possible

o If he’s not supervised, confine

Regulate

o Get him out on regular intervals

o If you feel he should have to go and he doesn’t return him to confinement for a short period and try him again. Do not allow him to wander around until he’s eliminated

Other Elements

o Do not use harsh reprimands if you see your pup eliminating inappropriately

o Never reprimand him after the fact

o Never play with him during any bathroom outing. Stick to the business at hand

o Keep his bathroom area clean

o Teach him to go to the bathroom on command

o Take him out at regular intervals at night until he can make all the way through without needing to eliminate

o Never play with him at night

Do not consider your pup housebroken until:

o He’s six to eight months of age and

o Hasn’t had any accidents in the house for two months
